The City of Westlake Village has a population of 8,341*. The median incomes are among the highest in the country at $75,000. The community is highly educated, 44% have 16 or more years of education, and family oriented, 60% are married. Almost half of the population is employed in either an executive or professional position. Westlake Village offers a number of excellent restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines. With over 100 different dining establishments in the area to choose from residents are never at a loss for something new and exciting. The Westlake Promenade, an upscale European-style shopping center, allows residents to dine in a beautiful setting, inside or out, at a number of different restaurants. From French to Japanese to fresh seafood Westlake Village offers some of the finest dining in Southern California.

The Landing, an office complex on the south side of Westlake Lake, has a number of different upscale clothing stores to choose from. The Promenade, at the corner of Westlake Blvd. and Thousand Oaks Blvd. offers locals many new boutiques as well as a Mann Movie Theater, Bristol Farms, Barnes and Noble, and Club Disney, the first of its kind in North America.

In 1881, a large portion of what was previously two Mexican land grants, was purchased by Andrew Russell. After the ranch traded hands twice, once in 1925 to William Randolph and then again to Fred Albertson in 1943, the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company bought the 12,000 acre ranch for $32 million. In cooperation with Prudential Insurance Company the area was commissioned for the preparation of a master plan community. The motto became "city in the country." From that point forward Westlake Village has been a community dedicated to preserving the natural environment of the area. The members of the Westlake Village community have deviated little, if any, from these original plans resulting in a beautiful city that has all the amenities of a modern community while preserving the natural beauty of the area.
